The Lions Den

The Chandler & Brownsboro Statesman - 7/6/2017

The Lions motto is "We

Serve." The U.S. Military motto is "No Man Left Behind."

Lions in Peninsula and the San Francisco Lions Veterans clubs serve all but focus on aiding veterans and their families. Lion Kevin Martin who also works with the VA, searches for veterans in homeless shelters and on the streets. His goal is to help them with post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), mental illness, substance abuse, depression and joblessness through VA services.

In Peninsula, Lions have a basket program that provides the Veteran's with an air mattress, laundry baskets full of pots and pans, cleaning supplies, utensils and many more items. They are helped with furniture, food and anything they need to make a home comfortable. Lions have delivered more than 350 baskets to Veterans, who have found housing through the VA's Homeless Vet's Reintegration Project.

Lion Kevin Guess, a mental health social worker and post-Vietnam Army veterans that had his own struggles, says "for those of us who have struggled and were able to recover, this is a way to give back. Our mission is to help others get to where we've gotten. Lions around the world work in MANY programs to help our Veterans. We are all proud of our servicemen and women, past and present who protect us every day.
