Mission is to increase the commitment of our communities to care for all people, especially those who are most vulnerable. Services that preserve the dignity of people in need include; Gateways: Assisting mentally ill, HIV, or chemically dependent individuals to live successfully in the community. Supported Housing Program, Shelter Plus Care Program, Sunshine Apartments and Supervised Community Residence program. Samaritan Center: Food, clothing and limited financial assistance to individuals and families in crisis. Food Bank of the Southern Tier: Distributes food through 130 food pantries, soup kitchens and feeding programs in nine counties. Services that strengthen family support systems include; Day Care Services: Affordable, quality day care services to families in need. First time Homebuyers: Counseling and access to financial resources for income eligible individuals and families in pursuit of owning their first home. Nutrition outreach Program: Education and supportive services to individuals and families eligible for food stamps. Transitions Counseling for Healthy Living: See separate listing in this directory. Teens and Family Outreach: Assisting families experiencing the crisis of teenage pregnancy and offering outreach services to families in crisis situation. Schuyler First Step: Counseling, support, and advocacy to victims of domestic violence. Services that influence public policy and provide community education to ensure that the needs of all people and the voice of the Church are represented include; Justice and Peace: Working with social ministry committees and community leaders to promote justice in public policy and social systems. Parish Services: Support to faith communities to develop outreach efforts.
