Comprehensive Interdisciplinary Developmental Services

Nurse Family Partnership, NFP: Provides maternal and child health services to prenatal and postnatal at risk women in first pregnancy. A team of nurses working with a Program Coordinator provides home health care following a prescribed schedule of periodicity. Nurse home visitations during pregnancy and after birth up to 2 years old. Infant Registry: Infants are enrolled in the screening and assessment program in order to detect and/or prevent developmental problems. Information is gathered through hospital interviews, home visits, questionnaires and screenings to determine if child is at risk physically or socially. Early Childhood Services Team: Performs screenings of preschool-aged children, collects their medial, family and developmental histories, provides brief counseling to parents, refers the children for appropriate remediation and reevaluation, has a formal network of information sharing with the children's doctors and appropriate agencies, and keeps track of development until the children enter school. A screening consists of standardized vision, hearing, speech articulation, and a series of developmental tests. Home Based Crisis Intervention Program (HBCI): Provides in-home intensive services to children, ages 5-17, in Chemung County. Utilizing the Homebuilder's model, services are targeted to children at imminent risk of inpatient psychiatric hospitalization. Family Life Development Center: Was established for the purpose of strengthening family life in Chemung County. The program provides information, education, and support relevant to today's changing families. Services include parent education programs presented at sites throughout the county, as well as a central resource center of family life materials for use by both parents and professionals. Parenting Programs, call for schedule and meeting times. Healthy Families Chemung County: Assists new parents through a range of services from teaching about child development to assisting in accessing resources relevant to their strengths and needs. The CIDS School Readiness Project is an initiative to ensure that children arrive at school socially, academically, and physically ready to learn. CIDS contributes to this effort by providing child development screenings and nurse home visitation services to the families of every 0-5 year old in Chemung County. Nurse home visitors support the health and welfare of infants, toddlers, and families through quarterly visits. They provide both skill-building and parent education curricula offering a wide range of topics, from nutrition to literacy. In addition, they provide timely and effective referrals to appropriate service providers while remaining an ongoing source of support for the participants.

The infant registry and home visits with a developmental nurse is such a fantastic resource for our community and a source of comfort to me personally, as a new mom. Many of my friends in Corning wish they had access to this program!
