Chemung Volunteer Action Corps

Promotes the concept of productive aging by providing individuals age 55 and older with meaningful work and utilizing seniors as community problem solvers. RSVP recruits, screens and places adult volunteers in community organizations of their choice where their skills will be best utilized. Transportation is available for all registered volunteers. TRIAD - A joint venture with law enforcement agencies, senior citizens and senior providers to address crime issues, reduce crime against older persons, and enhance the delivery of law enforcement service. Assists senior citizens with information on crime prevention, personal and home safety, consumer fraud and scams. Also provides speakers on these subjects for local community groups. Services include; Large print Community Services Booklet, Large size house numbers, FILE OF LIFE, Combat Auto Theft (C.A.T.), Security peepholes, Blinking lights. RIDE (Retired Individuals Driving Elderly) - A specialized RSVP transportation service serving only the senior citizens of Chemung County. All drivers in the program are volunteers. Transportation is available to; Chemung County residents at least 55 years of age, in need of transportation to medical and dental appointments, Anyone currently not provided transportation through the Medicaid program, Not in a wheelchair, Not on oxygen, No hands-on care can be provided by volunteers, A two-day working notice must be given when requesting transportation.
